Lodes Chiropractic Center COVID-19 Announcement

All of us here at Lodes Chiropractic Center understand your need to feel safe and ready to face the world; we do too.

We know we may not see you as often for a little bit. That's okay. It's normal for us to feel a little scared right now. When the answer to dealing with this worldwide issue is - "Wash your hands," well that's everyday practice for us and you know that, but that's not a good enough answer to make us all feel better.

Just like you, we have families we care about and want to keep safe. When something like the coronavirus hits the news, it can make us worry about everyday decisions.

One of the most important things we can do is to try to continue with our normal lives as best we can, doing the things we enjoy and need to stay healthy, while taking reasonable precautions, and adhere to national public health guidelines. Living our lives keeps us healthy and happy, and teaches our kids good behaviors. We wish to promote a culture of preparedness, while still promoting balance, normalcy, and enjoyment in our daily lives.

The person best equipped to take care of you is you, but we've got your back (pun intended).

Out of an abundance of caution, and love and caring for you, these are the steps we have currently implemented in our office to help your visit here be as safe as possible during this event:

  1. We are washing our hands after every patient encounter.
  2. We use disinfectants to clean all surfaces in our office (which include natural Essential Oil Disinfectants) throughout the day.
  3. We are using 2 layers of face protection on the tables now instead of the customary single sheet.
  4. We have employed a new scheduling system to reduce the number of patients in the office at a single time for better social distancing. To be able to pull this off, we need your help: we need you to keep your scheduled appointment time, and to realize that our visits must run on time in order to achieve the intended result. If you feel you have a complicated issue requiring more time, be sure to let the office staff know in advance when scheduling so we can find a time that fits those parameters.
  5. We are asking that anyone that is not feeling well (cough, fever, malaise, achy, chills, or just feeling "off", etc) to stay at home. Contact your primary care physician for instructions, or call the local urgent care center and express your concerns so they can give you the appropriate instructions.
  6. Everyone will now get their own set of Interferential Electrical Stim pads that will be designated only for you; there will be a nominal $5 charge for each set. We will keep them sealed in the zip lock bag they came in with your name on them. Thanks for your understanding.

Here are some of those tips to help you and your family feel safe and ready to face the world:

In General:

Wash, wash, wash your hands. Did you know soap and water are more effective than hand sanitizer (and apparently easier to find right now)? To really get rid of any germs, wash for at least 20 seconds – which just happens to be how long it takes to hum Row-Row-Row Your Boat three times.

Be sneeze- and cough-courteous. Coughing or sneezing into the inner crook of your arm catches the droplets that would otherwise end up in the air or on the surfaces around you. The COVID-19 virus is transmitted through droplets, not through breathing, so this is important.

Save the mask for Halloween. The benefit of a mask is that it controls the outbound expression of germs when someone coughs or sneezes. If you're healthy, a mask won't be very effective in preventing the spread of germs. If you're sick and need to be out in the world, a mask can help protect those around you from the germs you send out when you cough or sneeze.

Don't touch your face! The easiest way to get sick (with any kind of virus) is to introduce germs from your hands to mucus membranes – like your eyes, nose and mouth.

If you're not feeling well (whether it's coronavirus or an old-school cold) please stay home, watch some movies or start a new series, read a great book, cuddle with your dog or cat and catch up on your favorite show.

Avoid close contact with people who are sick. But make sure to ask them if they need some help or take-out. Sometimes a friendly meal makes all of us feel better.

Out in the World:

Wipe it out. Many of us do this anyway, but grab one of those wet wipes at the grocery store entrance to clean the cart handle.

Declutter! A clean desk or counter makes it easier to run a cleaning cloth across.

Personal space. Keep at least 6 feet between you and someone who is sneezing or coughing.

Sharing = caring? Not right now! We're usually all about sharing, but for now the kindest thing you can do is avoid sharing food, drinks, even lotion or sanitizers - and the germs that ride with them.

Breathe in, breathe out. Ventilation is a good thing. Weather and location permitting, crack a window.

Taking Care of Yourself:

Be on your best behavior. Keep yourself in good shape by getting plenty of sleep, being physically active, drinking lots of water, taking Vitamin D3, and eating nutritious foods (ask us about the homeopathic flu formula Oscillococcinum). A stressed body is a weak body, so manage your stress through exercise, meditation, prayer and conversation with a trusted friend.

And as our practice members know, stress accumulates on your nervous system, and a chiropractic adjustment helps to optimize your immunity and unwind that stress off of the nervous system.

Self-care matters. Caring for yourself is the best thing you can do for your overall health. And know this; the current situation is temporary, things will return to normal.
